Quick Scan Jeju Island, South Korea

WA Yachting Consultants was invited in 2022 to come to Jeju Island in South Korea and deliver a Quick Scan of the marine tourism industry opportunities. Jeju Island is a famous tourism destination with, before Corona, about 15 million tourists per year.



Yachting infrastructure and development in Fengxian, China

In 2006 WA Yachting Consultants, Royal HaskoningDHV and SUBDI, the Shanghai Urban Planning & Design Research Institute, delivered a Yachting Industry Master Plan for Fengxian. It is an excellent example of the opportunities and difficulties often encountered in China.



Breskens - a hotspot for sailors

Bresken is a harbour village near the border between the Netherlands and Belgium which is poised to become a hotspot for sailors. Ideally situated to take advantage of high winds, Breskens has the chance to revitalize sailing in the region.



Yachting development in the Netherlands in 2030, 2040 and 2050

As part of its national market and capacity analysis of the use of waterways, bridges and locks in the future, the National Water Board of the Netherlands (Rijkswaterstaat) has commissioned WA Yachting Consultants to develop a projection for recreational boating in 2030, 2040 and 2050.



Shenzhen Yachting Strategy

Over the last 30 years, Shenzhen has grown from a modest fishing village into a global port city with over 10 million inhabitants. As a relatively young city neighboring the city of Hong Kong, Shenzhen has focused its energy on developing its water tourism industry.



Walvis Bay Waterfront and Marina, Namibia

Walvis Bay is a unique settlement 1400 km north of Cape Town. The natural features of the area, thriving sea life, and pleasant atmosphere of the community make Walvis Bay a special place.



'End of life' boats in the Netherlands

Study that outlines current trends, reports on the number of boats in the Netherlands, in water and on land (500,000+) and estimates the current and projected number of End of Life Boats (ELBs) -- retired and abandoned boats.



Marina Amstelkwartier, concept development through developer selection

In 2012 WA Yachting Consultants was commissioned by the municipality of Amsterdam to create a concept, undergo feasibility and seek a developer for a unique plot in the heart of Amsterdam.



Xiamen Yachting Industry Development Plan, China

In spring 2014, Royal HaskoningDHV and WA Yachting Consultants were commissioned to create a short and long term development plan for the optimization of the entire existing yachting industry chain in Xiamen, China.



Yachting and Maritime Tourism Development Plan for Abu Dhabi

WA Yachting Consultants, together with a consortium of companies lead by EIN Quality Development including Royal HaskoningDHV and Mecanoo Architects was commissioned a Yachting & Maritime Tourism Development Plan for ALDAR, the prime property developer in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.



Shanghai Yachting Master Plan

The Shanghai Yachting Industry Master Plan was the inaugural project of WA Yachting Consultants in China. In 2003, WA was invited by Royal HaskoningDHV to team up with other Dutch specialists, including Waterfront NL partner KuiperCompagnons. Yachting pioneers in China like Yang Xinfa and Alistair Skinner were interviewed.



Yachting opportunities in Jinji Lake, Suzhou, China

In 2005 WA Yachting Consultants and DHV completed the Jinji Lake Yachting Master Plan. Jinji Lake is situated west of Shanghai in the middle of the famous Suzhou Industrial Park. In order to allow for yachting development, the lake has been dredged to create 3 meters of water depth.



Yachting and Cruise Opportunities in Flanders, Belgium

WA Yachting Consultants was invited by TRITEL, the consultancy group of Technum – Tractebel Engineering, to analyze the yachting network and facilities in Flanders and compare that with the situation in Holland and other European countries. Also the cruise opportunities were assessed.



Converting Amsterdam's Canal Cruises to Electric

Amsterdam's canal cruises are very popular year round. Approximately 3 million tourists take Amsterdam's 237 registered canal cruises annually, where 93 of them are the well-known large "glass boats. Additionally to the canal boats, there are almost 39 classic saloon boats, 77 sloops and a variety of city tenders, water taxis and classic barges.



Galernaya Gavan, St. Petersburg, Russia

Together with CRATE Architects the opportunities for a marina in the Galernaya Gavan were assessed. In this area the historic remains can be found of the first shipyard of tsar Peter I the Great (1672-1725). Because of its history it is a valuable cultural site.



Ecology and Environment

For many people, yachting is the ultimate experience of freedom. While on a yacht, it is possible to escape the stress of everyday life. One can move around enjoying the scenery from one's very own floating "hotel". Enjoying nature is an important incentive for yachting to be that popular.



Montenegro Marina Development

WA Yachting Consultants was invited by an international Investment Group to Montenegro to assess yachting and marina opportunities along the coast, make recommendations regarding marina development, and to provide initial concept designs for two selected sites.



Qingdao Waterfront Development

Qingdao was the second project of WA Yachting Consultants China. Together with DHV Group and Inter Boat Marinas, the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Venue Master Plan was reviewed for consistency with the IOC and ISAF standards. The team developed plans for post-Olympic integration with the wider waterfront re-development of Qingdao.



Yachting Consumers' Spending Habits

For the first time in yachting history, the number of yachts in the Netherlands' 1,300 marinas has decreased.



Dalian Yachting Master Plan

In 2005 a Yachting Industry Development Master Plan for the province of Dalian in China was successfully completed and presented to the Dalian Government. The plan describes all yachting and yachting network opportunities along the Dalian coast.



Marina discussion platform

In 1992, Mr. Reinier Steensma created a discussion platform for marina operators around Lake IJsselmeer. WA Yachting Consultants annually organizes three meetings for this platform, including field trips.



Yacht Valley Strategic Vision

Strategy for the transformation of the yachting industry. The Yacht Valley Project is a cross-border cooperation between the coastal regions of France, England, Belgium and the Netherlands to reinvigorate the yachting industry in the region.



Yachting and marina development in the Dutch Wadden Sea

The Dutch Wadden Sea is an important intertidal zone with tidal flats and wetlands rich in bio-diversity, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2007, a covenant to balance recreation with nature was signed by 27 governments and organizations.



Olympics in 2028

A century after the Olympic Games were hosted in Amsterdam in 1928, the Netherlands set its sights on hosting the 2028 Olympic Games.



Integrated waterfront development in Monnickendam

Monnickendam is a quaint, traditional Dutch town 15 km north of Amsterdam situated on the Markermeer – part of the former inland sea.
